![]() This is another fine entry in the Longmire series, and Johnson's love for his main characters-including Longmire's fiercely devoted partner (and Philly native) Victoria Moretti and his friend Henry-also extends to the many side characters and villains that populate the novel's urban wastelands. But Longmire won't retreat, not until his daughter's assailant is apprehended and Cady recovers-if indeed she ever does. Despite his grief, the stalwart Longmire begins an investigation of his own and manages to unearth a dizzying amount of corruption in the City of Brotherly Love, including homicidal drug dealers, hophead lawyers, an over-achieving, culturally confused ex-con, and enough sinister political machinations to send any sane person back to Wyoming. The number one suspect is Cady's ethically-challenged boyfriend Devon Conliffe, the last person to see her. The visit turns tragic, though, when Cady is assaulted and left in a coma. ![]() ![]() When his loyal friend Henry Standing Bear is invited to the big city (Philadelphia) to give a lecture on his photographs of Mennonites, Sheriff Walt Longmire tags along so that he can visit his daughter Cady, an up-and-coming lawyer. ![]()
